A lot of my work consists of big lighting set ups but a lot of my work is also reportage using natural light. Having had a recent discussion with photography students I mentioned the importance of using natural light as well as adding something else to the image such as flare and shooting directly into the sun. Here a is a recent shot for an ad using natural light.

Students braved the weather last week as we managed get the shots we needed before the snow arrived. Unfortunately they did need to remove a few layers so we could get the shots.

Shooting and Moving

A nice busy start to the year shooting locally and in London, which surprisingly was just as cold. Now onto pastures new with a studio move. A skip and transit van later and all done in a day. Those following on Twitter and Instagram will have seen the snaps being posted daily of random happenings.

Flamin’ Redheads

Finally I can reveal my new project Flamin’ Redheads. Every year I try and think of a personal project that will be used as a self promotional tool that showcases my work. I always aim for something that I have never done or seen before, although this gets harder as I am sure most things have been covered one way or another. Each personal project I think through for a few months before I decide which to make a project, and if I am happy then this may be used for my personal work. I do mention the importance of shooting personal projects to assistants, as how else are you going to get new work into your portfolio, or get the commissions you want to shoot. I, like many others, started a career in photography because I wanted to create interesting images and capture moments, hopefully making a living along the way.

A mini project I have been meaning to shoot for a while now. While on a shoot last year I noticed the different characters coming through the underpass on a Sunday. A big thanks to everyone who stopped for a portrait.
